Every day I make Chinese herbal formulations to help people heal their bodies. Over the last 30 years, my focus has been healing the body internally.
One night I started thinking about the skin and how it is the largest organ system in the body. I stayed up late into the night creating formulations that could greatly impact the skin and our internal health. As I researched classical Chinese texts looking for the best herbs for the skin, I was not surprised to learn that I am already using all of these herbs for healing internally.
Each night I continued to read and research. I started with a list of herbs and narrowed it down to those I feel have the greatest healing power. My first formulation would be for the face because our face is exposed to more elements and toxins than any other part of our body.
These are the herbs in my formulation.
Traditionally Chinese herbs are decocted in boiling water. A traditional formula contains 10-12 herbs that are often cooked two times, to extract all the healing properties of the herbs. After the herbs are fully decocted, the remaining liquid is brown, bitter to the taste, and has a strong scent. I needed to remove the color, and the strong odor, without jeopardizing the therapeutic qualities.
After many experiments, from designing a homemade distillery and diffuser, to eventually ordering a full chemistry set, I had a formulation that was clear in color and maintained all of the therapeutic qualities.
